Research on a Solar Chimney Power Plant (SCPP) – Wind Tunnel Tests and Numerical Simulation

This research proposal follows the research project “Solar Chimney Power Generation - Case of Aswan, Egypt”, which was financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the project leaders from DLR.
In this project an extensive feasibility study and technology demonstration will be carried out to determine the economic and environmental justification for Solar-Chimney-Technology to support sustainable power. The project will demonstrate that the technology will consistently generate green energy and prove that Solar Chimney technology is efficient and reliable. In addition, the project will show that the system can operate efficiently even on cloudy days, with only a slight drop in the power output and also verify that the technology will compete with the current lowest conventional power production costs.
